Let Him Be

There’s isn’t an inch of space to stretch my legs; yet the alms are far and few between.
Maybe, I am already dead for the soulless crowd on this throbbing street.
Maybe, I am just a ghost or shadow and not a man of flesh and blood.
The winter chill will take me in and my corpse will go unnoticed.
Of course, empty stares surround me everywhere;
But not a single stare conveys sympathy;
But I do often hear muted whispers;
Heaven and hell is here, they say
This man is simply rotting in hell.
So let him be.

    1. If you found it touching enough, my writing certainly has some scope for blooming.

  2. Dear Jini,

    That pretty much sums up how I feel about large crowds of people. Nicely done.

    Welcome to Friday Fictioneers.

  4. This is an interesting piece. I can't tell if the man IS truly dead, wants to be dead, or is looking toward being dead. Your words are quite lovely.

    1. Hmm the man is still alive. I was trying to show the apathy of the crowd toward the man. Don't know whether i am successful at it?

  5. Beautifully written Jini :). Everyday of our lives we rush through crowds at so many streets and roads that many a time we don't bother about those living on the streets in such crowds.
